Chromophorylation of apoproteins in each strain

This table lists the position of the cysteinyl binding sites (a consensus numbering is used for allophycocyanin, phycocyanin and phycoerythrin I; see Sidler, 1994) and chromophorylation for the different phycobiliproteins (present in the strains listed in the genome page or only the marine Synechococcus/Cyanobium/Prochlorococcus). The identity of chromophores at any given position was either determined biochemically (Ong and Glazer 1991, Shukla et al. in revision) or predicted by us, based on the presence of a specific set of phycobilin lyases in the genome and, in some cases, similar spectral characteristics of isolated phycobiliproteins as biochemically characterized ones (Six et al. 2007).
